[ HISTORY ]
Frontier Tower was founded in early 2025 by three German entrepreneurs: Jakob Drzazga, Christian Nagel, and Christian Peters. Inspired by a 200-person gathering in Montenegro, the team pooled their savings and secured a private debt fund loan to purchase 995 Market Street for $11 million - a 16-story, 90,500-square-foot building in San Francisco's Mid-Market district that had sold for $62 million in 2018.
The building was formerly home to WeWork and then the Burning Man Project (Black Rock LLC), and was vacant at the time of purchase. Drzazga is a Berlin-based serial entrepreneur with a background in crypto, fintech, and real estate who previously co-founded an artists' collective in Berlin. The concept draws on the network-state tradition: a self-governed, community-run space where each floor is its own micro-community with distinct focus and leadership.
In February 2025, the first programming launched inside the building. Vitalik Buterin hosted a panel on futurist cities in March 2025. By summer 2025, a six-week immersive program called Viva Frontier had run from June 20 through August 4. By fall 2025, the community had grown to over 450 members.
[ LOCATION ]
Frontier Tower occupies a 16-story, 90,500-square-foot building at 995 Market Street, at the corner of Sixth and Market in San Francisco's Mid-Market district. The building was constructed in 1908, historically known as the David Hewes Building, and sits near the city's civic center.
The building's floors each serve a distinct community. The second floor houses The Spaceship, a 200-person event venue used for talks, hackathons, and town halls. Floor 4 is dedicated to robotics and houses a $50,000 Unitree and a $75,000 Boston Dynamics robot. Floor 8 focuses on biotech and is pursuing BSL-2 lab certification. Floor 11 is the longevity floor, hosting hyperbaric oxygen therapy and IV drip startups. The 16th floor lounge overlooks the San Francisco skyline. The building also includes a basement nightclub and a rooftop area.
[ DURATION ]
Frontier Tower membership is ongoing with no fixed residency term - members sign up monthly or annually and can adjust at any time. There is no required minimum stay.
For a more intensive experience, Frontier Tower has run multi-week immersive programs. The Viva Frontier pop-up village ran for six weeks in summer 2025 and offered structured tracks, workshops, and hackathons within the building. For co-living, the team has acquired a separate nearby hotel rather than converting tower floors; detailed floor plans, programming, and operational updates are maintained on the Frontier Tower Notion page.
